Integrated Pest Management

The LFICD is a municipal district comprised of three townships (Bridport, Cornwall and Weybridge) that was established in 2006 for the purpose of mosquito abatement.  The district maintains a mosquito control program in collaboration with the Vermont Agency of Agriculture.  We take an integrated pest management approach, which is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention through a combination of techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, and modification of cultural practices.  Larvicides are used only after monitoring indicates they are needed, according to established guidelines; treatments are made with the goal of removing only the target organism.  Pest control materials are selected and applied in a manner that minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and non-target organisms, as well as the environment.
